Echternach

I can’t believe it’s been nearly 10 years since I moved here…

Raised in Lorentzweiler, moved to Bissen, followed by Waldbillig, before ending up in Echternach.

My wife has lived her whole life in the City Of Echternach, and nowadays I can sort of understand why she refused to move to Waldbillig, even though it’s only 15 minutes away.

Echternach is the oldest city of Luxembourg and has a rich cultural heritage to draw upon, such as the hopping procession.

It’s also generally considered one of Luxembourg’s main tourist hotspots.

However, I can attest that it’s a photographer’s paradise as well.

Of course, there’s quite a few old buildings and night photography can be a lot of fun.

Fear not if festivals and events are what you are looking for; Echternach’s got you covered! Two of my favourite recurring ones (pre-Covid) are e-Lake (a FREE music festival at the lake) and the Steampunk Convention. Here’s a couple of shots from the 2019 editions (the 2020 ones were obviously cancelled).

Speaking of the lake: this is one of my favourite places in Echternach. I can either walk around it and enjoy nature, or go for some telephoto wildlife shots.

Finally, let’s not forget that Echternach can also be considered a hiker’s heaven.

If you have any questions about a specific topic related to photography in and around Echternach, feel free to either leave a comment below or drop me an e-mail and I’ll do my best to get back to you asap :-)

Cheers,
Oli
